Apple Music has released this month’s Africa Now DJ Mix, featuring UK-based DJ, producer and curator DJames.
Widely recognised as one of the most influential tastemakers connecting African music to global audiences, DJames has spent nearly two decades championing emerging talent and shaping contemporary African and Caribbean music culture. Through his acclaimed “Afrobeats With DJames” platform, international DJ sets and original productions, he has helped spotlight artists and sounds from across the continent while building a reputation as a trusted curator of Africa’s evolving musical landscape.
DJames curates an expansive and genre-spanning listening experience for his second Africa Now DJ Mix. Bringing together more than 100 tracks from across the continent, the mix celebrates the diversity, creativity and momentum driving African music today, weaving together Afrobeats, Amapiano, Afro-fusion, Hip-Hop and contemporary African pop into a seamless musical journey.
“After almost 20 years of being in the music industry, the thing that keeps me motivated the most is discovering new talent,” he tells Apple Music. “I chose artists I’m really excited about, many of whom I’ve had the pleasure to meet and work with over the years. I wanted to represent the diversity across the continent by showcasing music from multiple countries and genres.”
Featuring music from artists including Asake, Wizkid, Davido, Ayra Starr, Omah Lay, Tems, Rema, Tiwa Savage, CIZA, BNXN, Young Jonn and Moliy, the mix moves effortlessly across regions, languages and styles, capturing a continent-wide soundscape defined by innovation, collaboration and constant reinvention. From chart-topping anthems to emerging voices, the selection reflects both the present and future of African music.
“I’m so grateful to have been asked to create one of these mixes for the second time,” DJames says. “I felt like I had to out-do the first one while also representing the incredible talent there is in Africa. I hope everyone enjoys listening to it as much as I did making it!”
Reflecting on the continued evolution of African music, DJames says: “There are young producers and artists creating new genres and sounds every week. It’s so exciting to witness it all unfold in real time. In this age of social media, artists can draw inspiration from anywhere and create something really fresh and unique. It’s only going to get better and more diverse as people travel and collaborate.”
