Home is where the heart is. And when all is said and done, one always finds their way back, no matter where they are from.
One such person who has her heart set on nurturing that beautiful and nostalgic feeling of home is multi award-winning singer, Candy Tsamandebele.
The songstress has teamed up with the first lady of Mafikizolo, Nhlanhla Mafu and they have given us Ekaya. The song paints a home environment that is peaceful and all the great things that a home can offer. Ekaya is an eargasmic and enchanting single that the two respective music power houses have given to music lovers.
The sweet and soothing Afro-soul singalong track is sung in isiZulu and XiTsonga languages. Ekaya which means home in Xitsonga was produced by Dr Frank who has been working closely with Candy on her sound. He previously produced Candy’s hit song, Siku Ne Siku.
Talking about the song, Candy Tsamandebele said: “I am so excited about releasing Ekaya. It is about two women who are grounded in family and have to leave their children and homes with the hope of making their lives better. In their journey of life they forget about their children. It is a tale of how they leave their homes for greener pastures in Gauteng, the City of Gold to fend for their families. It celebrates the coming together of women in order to take care of their families. Ekaya is a beautiful song and working with Nhlanhla has been nothing but amazing too, she came up with the concept of women working together.”
Nhlanhla added: “I am so honoured to be part of this beautiful collaboration with Candy Tsamandebele on her song, Ekaya. It is a song that highlights the importance of women within the community and the work they do. This includes being able to contribute to the community and wearing that hat of a mother, sister, aunt, over and above being able to take care of their families. This is the essence of the song and to also highlight the importance of collaborating as women. Changing the narrative that women are not supportive of each other.”
Candy and Nhlanhla have opened up their homes to empower and unify women from all walks of life who have their hearts set on making their future and that of their children and families better. Join them as they take you along this path.
Ekaya is now available for purchase across all digital music platforms and is distributed by Ziiki Media. (https://smartklix.com/CandyTsamandebeleftNhlanhla-Ekaya(Officialaudio)

Born Mosekedi Candy Mokwena and widely known as Candy Tsamandebele, this amazing vocal prowess was born on 19 June 1970 in a musical family at Ga- Sedibeng village, Bolobedu, under the revered Rain Queen Modjadji’s leadership in the Limpopo Province. Musically colourful as her name suggests, Candy Tsamandebele’s musical career started after she was initiated into her mother’s traditional music group known as Khekhapa in Bolobedu. Khekhapa was first created in the region to serve as a platform to teach and instil cultural values – through song and dance. For Khekhapa to come alive, songs were composed with just drums, vocals and choreography to produce rich and distinguished sound that could be identified specifically to the Balobedu people. Her mother, who was the group leader and the percussionist of the act, made sure Candy Tsamandebele was always presentable with the right attire and matching beads during performances, the tradition which she still carries today.
