Fans anxiously anticipated Eminem’s ninth studio album release titled Revival, produced by Dr. Dre and Rick Rubin.
Universal Music South Africa headquarters hosted a media brunch which was filled with some of South Africa’s biggest Hip Hop MCs to date, the panel consisted of Stogie T, Proverb and Reason who gave the album a lengthy listen and shared some of their lyrical opinions on the rapper.
One lucky Eminem fan “BlackAce4Real” who is an aspiring rapper, won a chance to sit amongst these greats and take part in the discussion.
The heated debate began right at the first song on the album “Walk on Water” which suggested to the panelists that this album was more of a vulnerable side to Eminem.
The panel had much to say regarding each song on the album, sharing their favourite moments and views on Revival.
Overall, this is what each of them had to say:
Proverb – “The album for me is full – the content and the lyrics. The production is interesting. Some of it is very experimental which shows that he is very comfortable with where he is now, from a content point of view it’s nice to see that he tackles current issues and is also not afraid to be vulnerable“
Stogie T – “I think it’s a very cool commercial album, he’s got big songs and big hooks, big features, it’s too early to give it a rating but I like it”
Reason – “I think the album is phenomenal in its writing, the story telling , the way he breaks down his opinions and the way he tackles certain issues whether its politics, race or love. The biggest thing that came out is that Eminem is of age right now and it’s interesting to find out the kind of person that he has become throughout his music because the Eminem that we were first introduced to was a totally different person.”
Revival features the previously released singles “Untouchable” and “Walk On Water” (featuring Beyoncé). The album also includes appearances by Alicia Keys, P!nk, Ed Sheeran, Skylar Grey, Kehlani, PHRESHER, and X Ambassadors.
Revival arrives as the follow-up to The Marshall Mathers LP 2, a 2013 release that debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
Revival is now available on CD and all digital platforms.
