Respect The Drumboss 2018
Johannesburg, October 5, 2018 – Last night saw Heavy K give fans, friends and media a first taste of his highly anticipated album, RESPECT THE DRUMBOSS 2018, to be released nation-wide today across all digital platforms.
The intimate listening session, held at Universal Music Africa in Rosebank, included Heavy K taking his guests through RTD 2018, explaining the meaning behind each song, including a performance by Heavy K on the first single, ‘Ndibambe’ with his wife, Ntombi.
The Port Elizabeth-born composer/producer/DJ has been teasing fans with hot new singles for the latter part of 2018, but has only just finished this summer’s hit album. As is to be expected from Heavy K, RTD 2018 includes 15 smash hits and features Africa and international finest collaborators including Davido and Stacy Barthe.
2018 has been an important year for the Drumboss, with Heavy K having also performed in, Los Angeles in March, at the Hollywood African Getdown hosted by Grammy and Oscar award winning rapper-actor, Common.
After his performance, Heavy K spent five days in studio with a number of top US producers and artists including nu-soul singer Stacy Barthe and vocalist, Fresh, who both feature on the unique cross-over hit ‘Cold’. Stacy has written for, amongst others, Rihanna, while Fresh has worked with numerous artists including Beyoncé.
“As for the first single, ‘Ndibambe’, it’s inspired by my relationship with Ntombi. It’s about accepting one for who they are and following your heart. It’s about connection. That’s the inspiration and the melody just rang in my head,” says Heavy K.
What’s for sure is that Respect The Drumboss 2018 will mark the next chapter of Heavy K’s remarkable career, in which his Afro-house sounds bring an infectious, drum-driven beat to dance music consciousness.
