New Nyanza Success was a band that owed its success to the arrival of BENGA in Western Kenya. As this new music took off, Victoria Jazz were the first BIG starts to be followed by D.O. Misiani’s Shirati Luo Voice Jazz, and bands under George Ramogi, Ochieng Nelly Mengo, Collela Mazee, Chaplin Kotula (Kawere Boys), John Otonde (Kiwiro Jazz), Awino Lawi and Musa Olwete. The majority of these band leaders had had their grounding with one or other of Victoria Jazz A, B, C or D.
Moses Rwizi led this NEW NYANZA offspring together with Jerry Ouma, James Okako, Paddy Onono, James Oloo and Ben Onyango. These New Nyanza boys were from the Western Kenya sugar belt and they thrived on dances in the clubs and pubs of the area. Hence their fan base was mainly Mumias, Muhoroni and Homa Bay
