Undoubtedly one of the most talented hip hop artists in South Africa, Reason has released his fourth studio album entitled Azania. The album consists of 15 songs and features a host of talented musicians, the likes of Kwesta, Kid X, Frank Casino, PH, The Muffinz, the legendary Sibongile Khumalo and American star Swizz Beatz on the album title track Azania. Nelisiwe Sibiya of Lockdown fame lends her vocals on the intro.
Born Sizwe “Reason” Moeketsi, this East Rand born and raised prolific songwriter is launching his new album on the 20th November 2018 with an exciting partnership with Huawei Honor.
Having coming into the industry in his teens and blown up in his twenties and now maturing in his thirties, there is no stopping his shine.
“Azania is the original name of the land which is called South Africa now. The album is named Azania because it’s supposed to represent the original people of South Africa, our struggles with the cops, our struggles with poverty, how we celebrate as the people of Azania, single fathers in the land and all those stories that have been forgotten and are a true representation what the larger masses of the people of the country go through on a daily basis, to kind of basically giving context to anybody who is in the country, the true stories that are not regularly told in the hip hop music”, Reason commented.
The album has 14 tracks and very brief, straight forward, it is treated like a book, every track has chapter, so that would make about 14 chapters. Azania was self- realisation for Reason and who he really is and the type of artist he is. It has few collaborations namely; The Muffinz, Mink Jankes from the USA, Swizz Beats, Sibongile Khumalo, Mr Beef on the album from the Vaal who is an upcoming artist and a friend, PH, Mo T, the intro is produced by Nelisiwe Sibiya and there are many people who made an appearance in the album. It also features Kid X and Kwesta appearing on the next single called O Sona Mang.
Reason is authentic and comes from an era that is based on being yourself at all times and not being afraid of being different. He is also more interested in milestones with this album, he wants to sell records, to win awards, to get views for the videos, and to have wins according to what the game standard has been set to be. “I just want to do big things but the most important one as well is really start breaking to the international market with this project to actually live up to the standards in which I see myself, it’s one thing to always see yourself as a great quality artist and international artist and an amazing musician”, he commented.
