B-Girl Countnaé Paul And B-Boy Benny To Represent South Africa At The Red Bull BC One World Final

Cape Town, 25 April 2021: The search is over! Red Bull BC One announced the best breakers in South Africa who will represent South Africa at the World Final in November in Poland. 20 finalists battled it out for the coveted prize where B-girl Courtnaé Paul and B-boy Benny reigned supreme and were titled the 2021 South African winners. The national final was judged by five of the most influential voices in the South African breaking scenes; namely Vouks, Foxxie, Ambrose, Bear and Vee.

The Red Bull BC One national final event took place in Cape Town and was livestreamed on Red Bull TV, Facebook and YouTube for everyone to watch the action as it unfolded. Audiences can watch the replay of the national final on Red Bull TV here.

“I had mapped out exactly what I had wanted to do and then you get here and the floor is not what you thought it would be, but I take pride in being able to adapt. From what I’ve seen, the BC One World Final is insane, I can only hope that the Covid-19 can give me the opportunity to be there. For me it’s no longer about proving anything, it’s about showing up, it’s about representing South Africa the best way that I can.” said b-girl winner of the South African Red Bull BC One 2021 Courtnaé Paul.

“I didn’t come into this competition this year to win, I came here to inspire the youth and the new upcoming generation of breakdancers that they should go out there to go out there and represent themselves – if I can do it then so can you. This for me is the last time winning Red Bull BC One because I would like to give the baton to the next generation. I think the judges could see that I really want this – not for me, but for the entire South Africa because I want to represent my country to the best of my ability and that’s why I train six hours a day.“, said the four time b-boy winner of Red Bull One South Africa B-boy Benny.

This live thrilling action-packed event was hosted by the legendary Mel Rock and co-hosted by South African award-winning rapper Rouge. Youngsta CPT is another rapper who took to the stage on the night by performing the much anticipated breakbeat track that was produced by DJ Ready D and DJ Azuhl titled ‘Cypher’. Red Bull BC One created this track in celebration of the continuously growing culture of breakdancing in South Africa.

B-girl Courtnaé Paul and B-boy Benny will be heading to the World Final in November 2021 in Gdansk, Poland.

The competition is not over for local breakers as applications for the Red Bull BC One E-battle will open on 29 April until 14 May. Aspiring breakers have another chance to compete at the World Final where they will face off with breakers globally to earn the spot.

Winners of the Red Bull BC One E-Battle will join national winners in Gdansk, Poland, to compete at the Red Bull BC One Last Chance Cypher, from which winners will join an esteemed line up of renowned breakers for the Red Bull BC One World Final.

The top 16 b-boys and b-girls will be announced on May 24. The competition will run from May to June, with the Red Bull BC One E-Battle World Final set for June 26, streamed live on the Red Bull BC One YouTube and Facebook channels, as well as Red Bull TV.
