
The 2016 VMAs will take place at New York’s iconic Madison Square Garden premiering and premiere on MTV (DStv channel 130) on Monday 29 August at 21:00 CAT. Build up to the big night begins with the official Pre-Show including red carpet action on MTV on Monday 29 August at 20:00 CAT.
Previously Announced Performers Include ‘Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award’ Recipient Rihanna, Britney Spears featuring G-Eazy, Ariana Grande with Nicki Minaj, Nick Jonas featuring Ty Dolla $ign and Future. They join previously announced performers Britney Spears featuring G-Eazy, Ariana Grande with Nicki Minaj, Nick Jonas featuring Ty Dolla $ign, Future and Video Vanguard recipient Rihanna.
This year the VMAs will forego a traditional host and feature an ensemble cast to cover the action. Comedians Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele will introduce the world to @TheShamester and @LizardSheeple, the world’s most-amazing, spectacular and well-respected social media influencers offering play-by-play commentary of the show’s biggest moments as they unfold. They will be joined by comedians Jay Pharoah and Nicole Byer who will bring their comedic chops to the telecast. Meanwhile, music producer DJ Khaled will keep the party going with reports from the ultimate tricked out skybox inside MSG.
Presenters for this year’s show include Sean “Diddy” Combs aka Puff Daddy, Alicia Keys, Ansel Elgort, Bebe Rexha, Fifth Harmony, Jaden Smith, Kim Kardashian West, Rita Ora, Shameik Moore and Tove Lo. Additional presenters will be announced at a later date.
Additionally, comedians Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, Jay Pharoah and MTV’s Nicole Byer, along with music producer DJ Khaled will serve as special correspondents throughout the night. Key & Peele will offer viewers play-by-play commentary of the show’s biggest moments as they unfold, DJ Khaled will report from the ultimate tricked out skybox inside MSG, while Jay Pharoah and Nicole Byer will bring their comedic chops to telecast.
