10 Years Later, Still Us: Nasty C Celebrates A Decade Of Bad Hair With The Fans Who Built It

Posted on June 24, 2026June 25, 2026 by Yule Dark

24 June 2026, Johannesburg, South Africa: Ten years after Bad Hair introduced a teenage rapper from Durban to the continent, Nasty C has officially launched Nasty X: The Fans Built This, a multi-platform campaign celebrating the fans, moments and milestones that helped shape one of the most influential careers in African hip-hop.

The campaign, which officially kicked off on 21 June, centres around the launch of nastycsa.com, an interactive digital platform that invites fans to recreate the iconic Bad Hair album artwork using their own faces. The project transforms one of the most recognisable covers in South African music into a collective tribute to the people who have supported Nasty C throughout his journey.

Alongside the website launch, Nasty C has released a campaign film that takes audiences back through different eras of his career, using his hair as a visual thread connecting the artist fans first met in 2016 to the global star he has become today. The film serves as both a reflection on the past decade and a celebration of the community that has grown alongside him.

“This campaign is really about the fans,” says Nasty C. “When I dropped Bad Hair, I was just a kid with a dream. Ten years later, I can look back and see how many people have been part of this story. Every stream, every show, every repost, every memory. The fans built this.”

Over the past ten years, Nasty C has become one of Africa’s biggest music success stories, earning multi-platinum records, international collaborations, sold-out tours and global recognition while helping redefine what African hip-hop can achieve on the world stage. From Bad Hair and Strings & Bling to international festival stages and chart success across continents, his rise has consistently been powered by a fanbase that has supported every chapter of the journey.

“Ten years after Bad Hair, we felt this milestone deserved more than a simple anniversary post or a look back at old memories,” says Ayanda Ngcobo, Nasty C’s manager and co-founder of Tall Racks. “This campaign has been designed as a multi-layered experience that allows fans to engage with the legacy in different ways. From the announcement film and fan-powered artwork to digital storytelling, real-world activations and future experiences that will roll out over the coming weeks, every touchpoint has been built around one idea: the fans have always been part of this story.

“Nasty C’s career is one of South African music’s great success stories, but it’s also a story that thousands of fans helped build through their support over the last decade. Nasty X is our way of celebrating that contribution while creating something that feels modern, participatory and worthy of the moment. We’re celebrating ten years of Bad Hair, but we’re also setting the stage for the next chapter.“

Fans can now visit nastycsa.com to upload their photos and become part of a collective artwork commemorating ten years of Bad Hair and the legacy that continues to grow. The campaign development and creative strategy was helmed by newly founded creative agency, Society Studios.

Further announcements, content releases and fan experiences tied to Nasty X will be revealed in the coming weeks.
