A Spoiler Free Review Of Queen Sono

Posted on February 15, 2020February 15, 2020 by Yule Dark

Kicking off with the let downs – for an action series, you’ll somewhat feel robbed at the amount of action you get in the series. It’s almost like you get 1 fight scene per episode and couple of them don’t have moments worth highlighting. This was probably the biggest let down for me, considering this is supposed to be an action series but even the props they use don’t seem convincing. Another let down are the jokes they wrote into the storyline, most of them don’t land. It will also take you a while to establish what the villain’s overall motive is, so you are not captivated into the storyline based on stopping the villain or sympathizing with the villain. The spy headquarters and gadgets they use, an even bigger disappointment. Don’t get me started there.

Moving along to the ups – the establishing shots for the locations they go to, that was well setup and planned. As the story progresses, you start getting an understanding of how everything fits into the picture. This is where I have to give props to the writers, who have created different struggles that Queen Sono has to go through in all aspects of her life and work. At times we see them work against each other and she has to sacrifice 1 for the other. Showing the work/life balance scenarios aren’t as easy as 1 would thing. We also see Queen Sono tackle social issues faced by people every day.

There’s a strong cast throughout the series and the talent used to carry the storyline does well but the lead actor does drop the ball a couple of times. The series gives the impression that it was well written, but the budget would be the letdown. You start wondering if the budget not enough or was the story too big?

Did I honestly feel enticed to finish the series, no – it doesn’t leave you at the edge of your seat but more easy going viewing, which is something Kagiso Lediga did on Catching Feelings and I was happy with that but for Queen Sono, I really expected him to bring so much more. He does do it here and there but unfortunately, there are more misses than hits for me.

I do think you should check it out though, maybe I might be wrong, I’m open to discussing it with you.
