Apple Music today announces The Sounds of Africa for Africa Month 2026, celebrating the musical identities of some of the continent’s most influential cultural capitals.
Africa’s impact on the global music landscape has never been more powerful. Across genres and borders, artists from the continent are actively shaping global sounds.
To mark Africa Month 2026, Apple Music’s ongoing Sounds Of Africa turns its focus to cities defining the next chapter of African music, including Cape Town, Durban, Harare, Luanda, Abidjan, Kinshasa, Dakar, Kampala, Cairo and Casablanca, building on previous editions featuring Lagos, Accra, Johannesburg, Nairobi and Dar es Salaam.
At the heart of the initiative are a series of curated playlists, each assembled by a collective of artists, music executives, tastemakers and cultural voices who embody the sound of their respective cities. These playlists bring together both catalogue classics and contemporary releases, offering a layered reflection of each city’s musical identity from its history, its evolution and its future.
Alongside the playlists, Apple Music also introduces a new series of exclusive DJ mixes under The Sounds of Africa banner, created in collaboration with leading selectors across the continent, each offering a deeper, more immersive journey into their city’s sonic landscape.
Each city presents a distinct musical narrative:
