Apple Music has released this month’s Africa Now DJ Mix, featuring Ghanaian DJ and producer DJ Boat.
For his Africa Now DJ Mix, DJ Boat delivers a high-energy mix that captures the current state of African music. “This is strictly a party mix. The mood is high energy and danceable, regardless of who’s listening to this mix, you will be moving some part of your body throughout the mix,” DJ Boat tells Apple Music.
Bringing together the sounds dominating major African events, festivals, parties, clubs and households across the globe, the mix serves as a snapshot of the music shaping the continent right now. The mix features music from artists including Wizkid, Burna Boy, Ayra Starr and Uncle Waffles, moving across Afrobeats, Amapiano, 3-Step, Afrohouse and other sounds currently driving African dance music forward.
DJ Boat describes the mix as a presentation of the current state of African music, saying: “What I love about our music is that it is always evolving, and I wanted the mix to be a timestamp of where it is at currently. This is a representation of the music you would hear at major African events, festivals, parties, clubs and in most African households. These artists are the culture movers and shakers of our day, the songs are the tunes that are keeping the dance floor hot right now.”
Speaking about the evolution of African music, DJ Boat tells Apple Music: “African music continues to mature on the global stage. We continue to show the world the depth of our sound. It feels like we introduced the world to African Music through Afrobeats, and every year, we reveal a different layer with the addition of Amapiano, 3-Step, Afrohouse and the list goes on.”
