Cape Town, South Africa – March 2026 – South African sneaker culture took centre stage as Archive and PUMA hosted an immersive celebration of the iconic PUMA Suede at Archive’s Cape Town store during First Thursdays.
The evening brought together sneaker enthusiasts, hip-hop fans, creatives and tastemakers for a night dedicated to the enduring relationship between hip-hop, street culture and sneaker identity. The event celebrated the legacy of the PUMA Suede, one of the most influential sneakers in global streetwear history, while spotlighting the role South African artists and cultural figures play in shaping its modern narrative.
The programme was hosted by cultural commentator and sneaker authority Kabelo ‘Fratpacker’ Moremi, who moderated a panel discussion exploring the intersection of music, fashion and street culture.
Joining him in conversation were:
● South African hip-hop star Maglera Doe Boy
● PUMA South Africa Marketing Manager Hayden Manual
● Head of Marketing – Archive, Anatomy and Sportscene Rasheed Ferguson
The panel unpacked several themes central to the sneaker’s legacy, including the influence of hip-hop culture on global fashion, the role sneakers play as a marker of identity within hip-hop, and how the PUMA Suede became an icon through its deep roots in B-Boy and street culture.
A key focus of the conversation was craft as the foundation of culture; exploring the creative processes, heritage, and identity that continue to shape contemporary design. Hosted by Archive in partnership with Puma, the discussion brought together voices from across creative disciplines to reflect on the importance of intentional creation, and cultural storytelling in an era often driven by speed and trend cycles.
While rooted in heritage, the dialogue also looked ahead; touching on how the next generation of creators can reinterpret legacy through their own lens while remaining grounded in authenticity, community, and craft.
The discussion highlighted how artists, retailers and brands work together to build culture – an “Artist × Plug × Platform” ecosystem that drives authenticity in the sneaker and streetwear space.
The night continued with DJ sets from Cape Town selectors MIAMIA and the Foreplay DJ’s, transforming the Archive space into a vibrant celebration of music, fashion and youth culture.
The event formed part of PUMA’s global celebration of the PUMA Suede, a sneaker that has moved from Olympic podiums to NBA courts and from New York B-Boy crews to modern streetwear culture. Originally introduced in 1968, the Suede remains one of the most recognisable silhouettes in sneaker history, continuously reinterpreted by new generations of artists and creators.
Through collaborations with cultural leaders and platforms such as Archive, PUMA continues to reaffirm the Suede’s relevance in today’s street culture landscape while honouring its deep roots in hip-hop history.
The latest PUMA Suede releases are available from Archive stores nationwide, as well as selected PUMA retailers and online platforms.
