Born in South Africa in 2002, Brutal Fruit Spritzer was intended to fill a gap in the cider market. It has since infused sophistication into the category with its unapologetically feminine persona, premium communications and highly sought-after brand experiences. So successful has been this brand’s trajectory, that Brutal Fruit Spritzer is the first South African brand in the ABInbev stable to achieve international expansion. Building on 23 years of local market dominance, Brutal Fruit has recently launched in Brazil, the UK and China in line with ABinBev’s megabrands strategy
Mathabire explains: “Our megabrands strategy focuses our efforts and resources on key brands that can drive sustained long-term growth. Globally our alcohol brand leaders like Corona and Stella Artois are megabrands, while in South Africa Brutal Fruit has emerged as as one She adds: “Recognising that the same core needs of our target consumers prevail all over the world, it makes sense that the same brand opportunity exists in other markets outside of South Africa.”

The Pink Table: elevating connection to a global movement
Since 2018, the brand’s wildly popular consumer experiences saw fans lining up to secure a space at Brutal Fruit’s Spritzer Saturdays – intimate weekend get-togethers of dynamic South African women in the majestic South African outdoors to the clink of Ruby Apple Spritzers. Spritzer Saturdays celebrated women and the unique chemistry they create when they feel like they belong, exactly as they are. “We are now elevating Saturday Spritzers into a global movement.”
She says: “We have learned in South Africa that women yearn for a space to come together, connect, and be ourselves and we believe this magic is replicable anywhere we can toast a Brutal Fruit Spritzer, and so The Pink Table is the next step in our brand journey.”
As Brutal Fruit Spritzer continues to expand into new markets, the brand recognises the importance of developing properties that can travel. “The Pink Table is the perfect example of this. As a movement of women coming together, it can literally be anywhere.”
She is clear however, that The Pink Table remains deeply rooted in its South African heritage. “South Africa gave Brutal Fruit Spritzer our voice, our character, and our understanding of what women truly want from a premium beverage experience. We are proud to be launching The Pink Table right here in South Africa, where it all began, but equally proud that the brand we have built can transcend borders and cultures,” concludes Mathabire.

Brand Director: Beyond Beer
Candice has a tenure of 13 years at SAB with a unique career spanning across Planning, People and finding a strong passion and home in Marketing. Candice was recently promoted in January 2025 to the Brand Director of Beyond Beer where she heads up Brutal Fruit Spritzer, Flying Fish, Black Crown and Redds. This comes after 4 successful years as the Marketing Manager of Carling Black Label, South Africa’s biggest and most awarded beer brand. Candice is also no stranger to Brutal Fruit as during a brief secondment to Brutal Fruit in 2023 she executed the SheBeen campaign which shined a spotlight on creating spaces for women to feel free, celebrated and truly belong.
Kudzi Mathabire
Global Director: Beyond Beer
Kudzi is Global Brand Director for Brutal Fruit, the woman leading the global expansion of Brutal Fruit. She’s one of our own, having started her career in South Africa. Kudzi got her degrees from Rhodes University and she joined SAB in 2012 as a Brand Manager for Hansa. She had numerous brand roles in SAB (including MM of Brutal Fruit). Before moving to the US, Kudzi was Brand Director for Castle Lager. She moved to New York in 2021 to join the team working on the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Since then she has taken on the role of Global Brand Director and she leading the global expansion of Brutal Fruit.
