Zakwe, a Kasi rapper that has made a mark in South Africa’s hip-hop industry with his bold voice and heavy punch lines of township stories. The 5-time SAMA award nominee is back with music seeks to bring awareness about various issues emanating from ekasi. In 2012 he received two nominations for the SATMA Awards (Best Vernacular Hip Hop and Best Song of the Year). In the same year, he won Best Lyricist Award at the 1st SA Hip Hop Awards.
He also received an honorary award, Milestone Award at the South African Hip Hop Awards for gold status of his self-titled album, Zakwe (sales in excess of 20 000 copies). In 2013 he scooped Best Hip-Hop Artist at the Metro FM awards. In 2015 he won the Best Vernacular Hip Hop Award at the SATMA Awards – for his second offering, Impande. Impande also received a nomination at the Metro FM Awards 16 for Best Hip Hop Album.
Zakwe is currently signed under Mabala Noise and is set to release his 3rd studio album, Cebisa. The album boasts features from the likes of Cassper Nyovest, Kwesta, HHP, PRO, Stogie T, Ma E, Mapaputsi to name a few; with production from the ‘Sebentin’ hit maker X-Wise, Saspekt, Rizzlah etc. The album has already awarded him Verse of The Month (VOTM) on Slikour On Life on the hit track “Sebentin”.
