20 August 2015 – Africa’s most famed and respected artists are hooking up to create a range of electrifying musical fusions on Coke Studio, a 16 week music show broadcasting on e.tv from Monday, 24th August 2015.
Artists, including the likes of Mi Casa, Cassper Nyovest, Oliver Mtukudzi and The Mahotella Queens, have come from all corners of Africa to unite in their shared passion of music.
Coke Studio is unlike any music show currently playing on South African televisions. Artists from entirely different genres and backgrounds pair up, fuse their styles and come up with an entirely new track in just three days. The entire song-making process, from start to finish, is caught on camera, giving audiences a “fly-on-the-wall” look into how the music is made. Viewers can watch their favourite musicians in action, witness all the behind-the-scenes drama and most importantly, listen to each artist perform their fusion track for the first time.

“Coke Studio is all about bringing African talent together to create fresh and interesting music. We have chosen some of Africa’s best artists and challenged them to use what makes them unique – their background, their nationality, their musical genre – and fuse it with someone else’s. The product of which is something never been seen or heard before,” says Sharon Keith, Marketing Director of Coca-Cola Southern Africa.
The show has also opened doors for undiscovered talent in South Africa with Coke Studio RAW. RAW was introduced to give struggling, talented artists who are not signed to a label, a chance to break into the industry. RAW artists were given two days in a professional studio to work up a track with two up and coming producers. Eight of the sixteen artists from RAW made it into Coke Studio and will be featured on the show.
“From generation to generation, music has been and will always be a means of expressing ourselves. It steers our emotions and enhances our lives. From Hip-Hop to Pop to Jazz, music makes the soul happy. Coke Studio is about pushing boundaries, exploring the length, breadth and depth of musical possibility and ultimately keeping a diverse South Africa a little more connected,” says Keith.
Coke Studio will air on e.tv every Monday night at 8:30pm from the 24th of August. For more information, including episode schedules, artist line-ups, artist biographies and how to download the music, visit www.cokestudio.co.za.
