Social media was a buzz last night at the much-anticipated reveal of the official Black Panther inspired album curated by the five time Grammy award winning Kendrick Lamar, following his new single featuring SZA with the music video set to release soon.
South African fans were in amazement when the track-listing reveal included South Africa’s very own artists such as Babes Wodumo, Sjava and Saudi.
Sjava shared his excitement on his involvement on the Black Panther The album: “I’m happy that they chose real talent over the hype, Africa has a lot of popular artists that they could’ve chosen for this album. The fact that they chose me based on who I am and my talent is an honour and it is important for young people to be proud of who they are and embrace their culture.”
This marks as an exciting time for music and entertainment across the world, being able to share cultures on one big global stage.
This was all inspired by the movement created by Marvel’s “Black Panther” movie which also features the likes of John Kani and his son Atandwa Kani as well as Connie Chiume alongside Lupita Yongo, Michael B Jordan, Angela Basset and Forest Whitaker.
Black Panther The Album is set to release on the 9th of February with the movie premiering on the 16th of February in South Africa.
