Superbalist is Rocking the Daisies is not all just about quality music, it has evolved into so much more than that. A space where comedy, film, art and music collide; where there is something for everyone.
Fancy some belly-aching laughs and off the wall antics? Head to the shade of the Lemon Tree Theatre for the best theatrics and stand-up comedy that SA’s top comedians have to offer. Award winning Deep Fried Man, Schalk Bezuidenhout, Rob van Vuuren and Yaseen Barnes will have you in stitches with their sharp delivery and topical content. Comedy funnymen Brendan Murray, Dave Levinsohn, Devin Gray, Dylan Skews, Eureka Nkese, Kagiso Mokgadi, Kurt Langeveld, Phil de Lange, Robby Collins, Stuart Cairns, Paul Snodgrass and Westley Cockrell complete the exciting line-up.
Following on from last year’s massive success, the Bridges for Music stage is back, showcasing the hottest DJ’s and producers from disadvantaged areas of Cape Town. The non-profit organisation works with electronic music and develops education initiatives to help uplift disadvantaged communities, break down racial barriers and provide life changing opportunities to young creatives from the townships.
This year’s Bridges for Music line-up includes Langa’s incredibly talented Makonwabe Bekwa, aka AudioJerk who plays a distinctive electronic, techno and dubstep sound and who is one half of the rising duo Stab Virus. DJ Mizz from Khayelitsha who has just signed to Universal Music and is the first Cape Town township electronic artist to sign with a major record label. Mikey Weinberg b2b Schumi’s vinyl dub techno’s always a winner, as are Ms Eve’s sensational house sets. Sir Vincent’s known for dropping soulful deep house, old-school and funky house beats, don’t miss him. Additional acts include DJ Loyd, Fosta and Deep Aztec.
True to its motto “play hard, tread lightly”, Superbalist is Rocking the Daisies spearheads green thinking in the country’s festival space, leading the way in educating and influencing festival goers to live a sustainable and conscious lifestyle. The Hemp Stage in the Green Village is one of the little gems of the festival, a must visit stage over the weekend.
This year’s line-up includes the grassroots, soul-lifting act Crimson House, known for thier heart moving audio candy. This band of brothers delivers a show that gets any audience on their feet and singing along. DJ Eppelsauce (Daniel Eppel) is also on the line-up; his sets are always high energy and full of soul, with an eclectic mix of genres covering nuFunk, ghetto funk, world music, electro swing and more. Joining the Hemp Stage acts are DJ CrashLove, Sereetsi and the Natives, Johnny Luck, Lidza, LOUI LVNDN, , Miles Sievwright, Natalie Poppy, Spoenk, The Little Kings, Ernestine Deane, Astrafnk and the Space Cats, Wandile Mbambeni, and Wordsuntame.
From 6-9 October, Superbalist is Rocking the Daisies sees over 250 acts and as well as music and comedy, it incorporates art, film and a variety of multi-faceted and multi-sensory experiences. Festival goers can expect an action-packed weekend of camping, great times and the best in local and international entertainment.
