Steyn Entertainment’s decision to make In The City a separate event from Rocking The Daisies, with its own date and lineup, was a significant move for the festival’s future. Their talent for identifying artists South Africans love (think niche appeal!) was evident with the crowd-pleasing additions of Jordan Wards and Mereba, supported by Filah Lah Lah, Lordkez, and a strong local lineup. The expansion to Cape Town alongside the established Johannesburg show broadened the festival’s reach.
Caught Filah Lah Lah’s performance today.

The impressive lineup led to a sold-out event, attracting brand support from Maybelline and Flying Fish, demonstrating an understanding of the target audience – young women. Speaking from my experience at the Johannesburg leg, the ample security and police presence fostered a safe environment. Ample parking at the venue ensured a smooth arrival and departure.
The performances themselves were excellent, with great energy from the artists. The bars were well-staffed and avoided congestion. Restrooms were standard. As a non-VIP attendee, I can’t comment on that area. While the media center had limited space, it offered a good view of the stage.
Steyn Entertainment has successfully positioned In The City as a strong contender in the market, with outstanding reviews setting the stage for future success. The cancellation of the Ayra Star event was a minor setback, but overall, In The City is off to a fantastic start in 2024.
