Nu Metro has confirmed that it will be screening the highly-anticipated blockbuster Independence Day: Resurgence in fully immersive style, a day before the film’s general release, in its Scene Xtreme and 4DX cinemas nationwide this Thursday, 23 June 2016 at 20:00.
In Cape Town and Durban, Independence Day: Resurgence will be screened in the 4DX cinemas at Nu Metro V&A Waterfront and The Pavilion. The revolutionary, multi-dimensional 4DX cinema-format employs motion, vibration, water, wind, lightning, scents, and more to create a truly immersive experience – giving cinemagoers an adrenaline-fuelled, multi-sensory, digital 4D movie experience. It enhances the on-screen action, atmospheric elements and mind-blowing special effects like no other cinema can.
The screenings for Independence Day: Resurgence in Scene Xtreme at Nu Metro Menlyn Park (Pta), The Glen (Jhb) and Clearwater Mall (Jhb) will feature next generation, digital 3D projection through RealD’s Precision White Screen-technology; delivering a much sharper, brighter and more realistic image compared to other standard 3D cinema screens.
Another aspect of the Scene Xtreme experience is the latest in sound technology. Scene Xtreme at Nu Metro Clearwater Mall is the only cinema in Gauteng with Dolby ATMOS sound – delivering all-around surround sound via the most advanced cinema sound system available. ATMOS soundtracks condense multiple levels of audio, processed with precision through overhead speakers and crystal clear reproduction – sounds can literally be moved around in 3D space. Menlyn and The Glen Xtreme boast Auro 11.1 audio systems, including the much talked-about “voice of God” sound channels hovering above cinemagoers.
Jeff Goldblum reprises one of his most popular roles in Independence Day: Resurgence. This sequel comes 20 years after the original and promises to deliver to the max with massive special effects, intense action, over-the-top adrenalin and adventure from another galaxy.
In 1996, director Roland Emmerich launched a new era for the disaster movie with Independence Day, which became a massive box office hit and seared itself into the public imagination with its story of aliens destroying major landmarks and humanity finding a way to fight back. In the much-anticipated sequel, Independence Day: Resurgence, it’s 20 years since the original attack. Earth’s inhabitants have banded together like never before to rebuild and work on using captured alien technology to address many of the globe’s other problems, including environmental issues.
Our armed forces also have new weapons to deal with any further attacks; and not a moment too soon, as the aliens are back in force. David Levinson (Goldblum), now the head of the Earth Space Defence initiative, is in the front line of figuring out how to tackle this vast new challenge as even bigger spaceships arrive to threaten us with destruction.
Independence Day: Resurgence will be showing in all Nu Metro’s cinemas nationwide – including 4DX, 3D, 2D, Scene Xtreme and Scene VIP – from Friday, 24 June 2016 (a day after the Xtreme and 4DX sneak pre-release screenings Thursday evening).
