Share South African artist, actor, creator, performer and DJ Kamo_ww releases his latest single, “NGO’ 7 (Ufun’ Ukwenzani)”, today through gamma., giving listeners a taste of what’s to come from his forthcoming sophomore EP, ‘DOLLS EAT.’
A vibrant dance record made for the floor, “NGO’ 7” captures Kamo_ww at his most carefree, bringing together his natural connection to movement with the distinctive sound of StockieNChillie and playful melodies from Springle.
The song almost didn’t happen. It was created at the very end of a studio session, when Kamo_ww and his collaborators were tired and ready to pack up. Then the beat came on.
“We were about to pack up, then this beat came on and we just had to go one more time,” says Kamo_ww. “That’s the energy the song lives in.”
That spontaneous energy became the foundation of the record. “NGO’ 7” isn’t trying to deliver a heavy message. Instead, it is about letting loose, having fun and giving yourself permission to simply dance.
“It doesn’t have the strongest or deepest message, and that’s intentional. Not everything needs to be deep, sometimes you just need to dance. Sometimes you just need to ask, ‘Ufun’ ukwenzani?’ and do it.”
The single introduces the lighter side of ‘DOLLS EAT.’, Kamo_ww’s forthcoming sophomore EP exploring performance, survival, softness, power and joy. At the heart of the project is the world of his Haus and the community around it, known as The Dolls.
“Dolls Eat when they’re crying, Dolls Eat when they’re slaying, and Dolls Eat when they’re just having fun on a Friday NGO’ 7,” he says.
With DOLLS EAT., Kamo_ww is creating a body of work that allows all these sides of his artistry to exist together, from performance and power to softness and, importantly, joy.
With “NGO’ 7 (Ufun’ Ukwenzani)”, he invites listeners into the fun side of his Haus while setting the tone for the world of DOLLS EAT.
Welcome to the fun side of the Haus.
