Johannesburg, Monday, 1 July 2024 –As the ground-breaking documentary series Maftown Heights Untold Stories prepares to air its finale episode this weekend, viewers are in for an emotionally charged and insightful journey back to where it all began: Mahikeng. This final instalment promises to deliver heartfelt moments, historical reflections, and forward-looking conversations that encapsulate the essence of the Maftown Heights festival and the Motswako movement.

The finale episode takes a poignant look at the return to Mahikeng, the birthplace of Motswako that underscores the Maftown Heights festival. Featuring vox pops from the local community, the episode captures the heartfelt reactions of those on the ground to the festival’s homecoming. By revisiting the iconic 2017 performances and providing exclusive interviews with key figures, the episode explores the deep significance of the festival’s roots in Mahikeng.

We look at the 2017 performances and interviews with the relevant parties. We explore the true significance of the festival being in Mahikeng with an introspective look into the emotion of HHP’s historical performance with everyone on stage with him.

We delve into how the Maftown Heights gives back and pays it forward through interventions such as the Creative Community Workshop series it started in 2020.

The episode also looks to future of the genre and the festival through conversations with Maglera Doe Boy, 25k and Thato Saul.
