Armed with chutzpah and never-say-die attitude, a revved up Lungi Naidoo makes her voice heard with her new love soaked single, Hawu Lami.
The tender track showcases Lungi’s soothing vocals and impeccable delivery as she coos and croons over the melodies. It’s an ode to enduring love that triumphs against the odds and pushes two people together.
After breaking free from her previous record company Lungi embarks on a new journey as an independent artist and the conductor of her own destiny with her label Afro-Asian Music.
She returned home in KwaDukuza, KwaZulu-Natal to refocus her energies and came back with newfound vigor and tenacity. ‘I almost lost my sanity, luckily I have a home to run to. I’m in a good place now, I’m not vengeful,’ she reflects
Lungi was invited to perform at President Cyril Ramaphosa’s inauguration in May 2019 on the invitation of revered creative, performer and director James Ngcobo. She sang Holili, as made famous by Miriam Makeba.
‘There’s no such a thing as giving up, you just keep going and this song is testament of the human spirit that is never put down by circumstances or the forces of evil. I’m proud of Hawu Lami and I know it will land well on the ears of music lovers,’ she shares.
Hawu Lami is a precursor to Lungi’s fourth album/EP that she plans to release later in the year. She enjoyed great success in West Africa with Away With Me produced by Black Coffee from her last album Black Diamond. She even went on a radio tour in Nigeria to promote the hit single.
Her previous chart toppers include Falling featuring Black Coffee and Kiss Madolo. She started singing in the church as a 10 year old and she ended up as a lead vocalist and a local band. She moved to Johannesburg starting out as a backing vocalist until she stepped out on her own.
