After three years of absence from the recording studio, South Africa’s musically acclaimed hit-makers, Mafikizolo, are back in 2016 with a brand new single and video, aptly titled Colors of Africa.
With the single, Colors of Africa, the duo is ready to continue where they left off by once again collaborating with the celebrated and talented Tanzanian artist Diamond Platinumz, as well as the finest producer, DJ Maphorisa, who has in the recent past worked with Mafikizolo, including Nigeria’s mega stars Davido and Wizkid, as well as American hip-hop artist, Drake, and many more successful musicians.
The multi-platinum selling and award-winning duo held a special media launch at Silverstar Casino’s movies@ cinema complex in Krugersdorp on Wednesday, 20 April. Silverstar Casino, the West Rand’s No. 1 entertainment venue, was the perfect choice for the exclusive media launch.
The Colors of Africa video and track is expected to first hit the airwaves on Thursday 21 April, playing exclusively on MTV BASE for three days.
An official public launch will take place at Taboo Night Club in Sandton on Friday, 22 April.
Mafikizolo’s last release was an album titled Reunited in 2013. The album enjoyed immeasurable milestones locally, across the rest of the continent and internationally. Reunited saw Mafikizolo scoop 8 SAMAS in one night, as well as MTV Awards, Metro FM Awards, AFFRIMMA Awards, ANN7 Most Celebrated Personality Award, among many accolades achieved by the duo in 2013 and 2014. The group was also nominated for several international awards such as the BET awards, MOBO awards and the EMAs.
“Colors of Africa talks about unity in our beautiful continent with a very diverse culture. It also encourages the spirit of excellence in the continent to conquer the rest of the world,” says Theo Kgosinkwe.
The video was shot in different locations around Johannesburg, South Africa, and fuses the different cultures, dance moves, sounds and musical styles that reflect the vibrancy of the continent.
In keeping with previous releases, the group is releasing Colors of Africa as a single, with the album to follow in due course.
“We know very well that our fans have been waiting for new music from us. We have heard them and we know that they will thoroughly enjoy our first single while we are putting final touches to the album,” adds Nhlanhla Nciza.
The group believes in collaborating with some of the finest talent on the continent because they believe working together is the best way for Africans to achieve success, and music is the perfect medium to connect people from all walks of life.
If Mafikizolo’s impressive track record of hit singles is anything to go by, Colors of Africa is very likely to dominate the airwaves and music charts from Cape to Cairo over the next few months.
