Johannesburg-Monday, 28 November 2016 – The annual Metro FM Rustenburg Heatwave attracted a massive turnout of attendees from in and around the Province of Bokone Bophirima (North West). Music lovers descended to the Olympia Park Stadium to witness a lit live concert which included some of the country top DJ’s and performers. Headlining the afternoon with a repertoire performance, new kid on the block Nasty C serenaded the crowd with his rap punch-lines, leaving some of the audiences salivating for more.
Fans who missed the young rapper were still able to take part in the line-up act as local DJ’s came in numbers; elevating the party to the next level. Some of the local DJ’s featured included DJ Sevij, followed by legendary Vinni Da Vinci who jammed tunes that took audiences down memory lane with hit songs such as Moloko’s “Sing it back”. As the day progressed to sundowners with ultra-light LED screens, renowned club DJ, Lulo Café elevated the mood with songs from his album, whilst DJ Naves and Sphectecular rocked the house in grand style with their dance tune ”Abantu ba Bantu”
“The Metro FM Heat Wave is one of the greatest events that brings together the community of Bokone Bophirima, this live concert drives tourism to the Province, as neighbours from other Provinces come to witness the Metro FM Heatwave. In addition the event stimulates local economy by bringing in service providers from the area who get to sell their produce during the concert” said Rustenburg Municipality Executive Mayor, Mpho Khunou.
The Metro FM Rustenburg heatwave also launched a new coterie of DJ’s who won a talent search the previous night during the station activation at one of Rustenburg finest hangouts. Winners included Toxic B, Ph Lepara and BanksTherapper who hyped audiences with real time mixes.
Metro FM Station Manager commented, “this evening was memorable experience for our listeners, not only did we cater 90% local music, but we managed to profile new and up and coming talent from Bokone Bophirima. This weekend was truly a representation of cross section of local music from every house genre”.
The event was hosted by the eccentric duo of “whose show is it anyway”, Somizi Mhlongo and Khanyi Mbau with MC interludes by MC Maraza from Rustenburg. The Metro FM Rustenburg Heatwave garnered more than 1000 tweets using the hashtag #METROFMHeatwaveRusty and generated the number 8th spot on the trendlist trending over the weekend.
