Born Sinenhlanhla Mthembu, the Verulam KZN native captures the essence of the nation through “african sound therapy”. Nana has always been a music junkie,her career stems back to the tender age of 11, her gift for healing through music was inevitable.
Nana’s ongoing musical journey has brought her to a number of groundbreaking collaborations and professional opportunities. Nana currently works very closely with multi-talented musician Zakes Bantwini. She had large influence in the making of the Zakes Bantwini “Love, Light & Music” album. Her shared work experiences also include collabs with well known producers and musicians like; Leroy Styles, Mampintsha, Karyendasoul and so many more.
Nana Atta is set to release a full body of work titled; U ok Love? on 30 April ‘21 Her debut EP comes after nearly 8 years of successful music collaborations, record deals and ultimately becoming an independent artist with a platform to turn authentic vision into song. #africansoundtherapy
U ok Love? — A vigorously robust 5 track EP packed with soul, youth, simplicity and a message of hope for the people of Africa. Assembled through musing masterful instruments not only to entice the earworms but rather it evokes deep emotion, through its soft yet piercing keys, the rhythmic progression of the percussion and the dynamics of the decrescendo perfectly paired with brisk aura bass keys.
The most eloquent amalgamation of artistry and strategically curated sounds are prominent throughout the 5 track EP , her recent singles; “Abafana” and Njalo” are the elucidation of the female voices that are struggling to be heard, Nana embraces her female comrades with words of encouragement and the spirit of Ubuntu.
Nana Atta delivers high powered vocals, articulation and rhythmic complexity. She takes us on a poetic journey as she elaborates on the birth of “U ok Love”.
“2020 was without a doubt a hard year, it was a really heavy year for everyone, but especially for woman” She explains that Africa was simultaneously suffering from two pandemics, Lives were lost due to Covid-19 but also through human trafficking and gender based violence.
Nana’s lyrics and storyline is an authentic ensemble that outlines the lengths and extremes that women go through in order to grow and cultivate that which they love.
Nana believes that women carry majestic power, “this is the ultimate life force of humanity, we need to nurture and respect this life force because our future depends on it”.
Abafana was released in November 2020 and has since received significant radio support. The track was produced by Zakes Bantwini, Skillz and Mthunzi. Nana showcases her amazing song writing capabilities alongside her angelic vocals.
Njalo is the single meant carry the EP, the track will be available for purchase through pre-order of the EP as of 16 April 2021. Njalo which was produced by the talented Demor, efforts of the pair working together resulted in a song that may very well become a Mzansi favorite, its an immortal encapsulation of a serenation song for the ages.
U ok love? is meant to promote healing, it is a lifetool that can be used to help adapt to the new way of living, we have been isolated and kept away from physical contact, which sparked mental health issues, gender based violence, unemployment and a huge array of problems.
