Johannesburg, 13 December 2018: Late Soweto born hip-hop legend, Linda ‘ProKid’ Mkhize scooped the number one spot in the first-ever MTV base Hottest MCs G.O.A.T list. Understanding that hip-hop has touched millions of South Africans with its message of social consciousness, MTV base (DStv channel 322) paid tribute to the genre by appreciating Mzansi’s living and passed hip-hop giants in an hour-long panel discussion.
Hosted by television personality, Scoop Makhathini, the MTV base Hottest MCs G.O.A.T. special had its fair share of dramatic moments and heated debates by the esteemed panel made up of hip-hop commentators; Helen Herimbi, Rashid Kay, Kenzhero, DJ Switch, DJ Sabza, as well as Nota.
ProKid lead the pack at number one followed by another recently departed megastar, HHP, at number two, while SA’s seasoned MC, Stogie T claimed the third place.
The panel revised the list based on criteria that analysed the musicians’ bars and lyrics, impact, commercial success, buzz, intangibles and on notoriety. As a result, the complete top ten list of MTV Base Hottest MCs G.O.A.T. 2018 is as follows:
