2017 seems to be racing away with us and that cannot be a bad thing as we prepare ourselves for DJ Mahoota’s 4th Annual SA Music Carnival, to be held at top Sandton nightspot Taboo on Friday the 17th of March. Be warned that this is no ordinary club event. Expect over sixty live acts and DJs to dazzle the crowds on three dancefloors in an electrifying carnival atmosphere. It is that carnival theme that results in an expanse of wild, expressive outfits, with dancing to match. As with last year, there will be a cash prize of thirty thousand rand to be won by the person deemed to have the best outfit by a panel of judges, a very pleasant way to wind up one’s night!
The three genres of house music, hip-hop and kwaito will form the foundation for the event. All will be well represented by a combination of live performances and DJs. The expensive music sector will be headed by the Legends Vinny da Vinci, Christos, Oskido and Ganyani, with a solid line up behind them. The list includes Glenzito, Lulo Café, Tira, Shimza, Heavy K and Fistaz amongst others. Live acts by Black Motion, Busiswa, Nokwazi as well as Dr Malinga are on the bill.
The continued rise of hip-hop will be spearheaded by Kwesta, Nasty C, Riky Rick, A-Reece, Sjava and Maraza with the decks competently handled by Sphectacula and Naves, Speedsta, Citilyts and a long list of others. A great aspect of the show will be strong kwaito representation of Professor, Spikiri, Mdu, Arthur and a host of greats.
As the show prides itself on being a promoter of tourism to Gauteng, especially from our SADC neighbours, there will be performances by Afro Warriors of Angola and DJ Kalpso from Namibia. This aspect of the show is expected to grow at future shows. Partners for the event are DSTV channels Mzansi Magic and Channel O, urban radio station Y-FM and brands Johnny Walker Platinum, Ciroc and Heineken.
Tickets for the event are available from Computicket. Early bird specials until late February are just R200. Normal pricing of R250 then kicks in with gate tickets starting at R300 before 10pm; save yourself disappointment and cash by purchasing in advance. The show will sell out. The best part is that you stand a chance to win a brand new car. See you there
