Mashup Masters returns for its final Episode 5, bringing together two very different approaches to South African music as Amapiano vocalist Thatohatsi joins forces with powerhouse emsemble The Vocals.
The latest episode continues the series’ exploration of unexpected musical combinations, pairing Thatohatsi’s distinctive Amapiano vocal style with The Vocals’ dynamic harmonies and commanding group sound. The collaboration creates a meeting point between the rhythm-driven world of Amapiano and the expressive power of vocal performance, creating a song that’s rooted in its spirituality.
At the heart of the episode is the challenge of taking two established approaches to music and finding common ground. Thatohatsi brings the energy, phrasing and contemporary feel of Amapiano, while The Vocals bring their collective strength, layered harmonies and ability to turn a song into a full vocal experience.

For Thatohatsi, the collaboration presented an opportunity to approach Amapiano from a different perspective saying, “I’m used to letting the beat lead me, so working with such powerful voices gave me a completely different way to think about the music.”
The Vocals embraced the opportunity to explore a genre outside their own established sound explaining, “Amapiano has such a unique energy, and we wanted to see how we could make that energy work with our voices.”
