This has to be 1 of the most special Top5’s yet, Bokbeats shares his Top5 songs, which comes with pain and memories of lost heroes.
I met Bokbeats through DJ Mtshepang at Kid Fonques #2SidesOfTheBeat event. He is 1 of the most hardworking DJs you will come across and always hungry for more. He is definitely on the right path in the industry and will keep rising as time goes on. Watch him and this is his Top5.
1. Lars Behrenroth & Sinan Baymak – I Miss The Things (Joe DiPadova & Shea Marshall Remix)
The first time I heard this song, I was half asleep. You know when you’re listening to a mix and fall asleep midway through it, then this song just wakes you up and you’re like WOAH. That’s what happened to me. Love it. It’s a perfect track.
2. Studio Apartment Featuring Terrance Downs – We Are Lonely (Quentin Harris Vocal Mix)
This song really needs me to say nothing, really. Everyone falls in love the first time they hear this song. I mean Terrance Downs is my favourite vocalists ever. Vocal opulence. And we really are all we’ve got. We are lonely.
3. Lenny Williams – I Love You
This is a cliche but oh well. My uncle used to play a lot of vinyls, tapes of these Mo-Town guys while I was growing up. Teddy Pendegrass, Commodores, Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes. Leaves me feeling nostalgic all the time. And what a massive tune, the dude cried on the song! Doesn’t get better than that.
4. Roberto Rodriguez – Be Somebody (Original mix)
This is one of the first songs I will play when I make it big. “I Always Knew That I Will Be Somebody Too” First time I heard it, the lyrics looped in my mind for the whole week. Proper beats too.
5. Wookie, Lian – Live On
No fun story here. I had heard it many times before but always danced to it. One of my best friend’s brother passed on, we were at my place, just trying to escape the madness through the music and we listened to this song and he asked me to repeat it, we repeated it and the words resonated with me. This is a song they would play as the box is being lifted down and glorify any house deejay
Common – Like Water For Chocolate [Album]
The first time I connected with HipHop. I don’t skip a single track on this album. Just. Press. Play.
