In recent months The Soul Candi brand has been undergoing plenty of changes, and of course, no change comes without speculation. To address that off the bat – our fans can be rest assured that We Are Not Closing Shop!
We are however excited to announce that we have not only repositioned our business model, but that as of May 2015 our new home is a newly renovated penthouse suite in Rosebank.
WHY THE CHANGES?
Founder of Soul Candi Records, Harael Salkow says “When reflecting on where we came from and defining our future path it became evidently clear that we came from a place where our daily focus was sharing the best artists and experiences with music fans. The music rights investment business, while fun and exciting, had caused us to make family of a handful of acts while turning the rest of the artist community into our competitors. In getting back to our roots we concluded that the conflict had to go to allow us to get back to our reason for existing – celebrating the music industries finest with our loving fans. This means Soul Candi will no longer be investing in artist rights.”
THE FUTURE
With conflicts removed Soul Candi is now ready to follow its new path…

THE HISTORY
From our humble little record shop in Birnam, Johannesburg, our businesses core activity was finding the best new music around the world to assist DJs in having the latest and greatest new tracks for their respective audiences.
The natural progression was to share these songs with our audiences through compilation releases. Around this time the SCIM (Soul Candi Institute of Music) was born, our education arm that trained DJs and music producers. We were now active in the album releasing business as well as training some of the future hit acts we would grow to sign to Soul Candi Records. This lead us into the rights investment business focusing on 360° deals with artists who we saw opportunity to develop.
From Birnam, we made the move to Rosebank to grow what was then our vinyl business, turned into the rights business, leading to ‘Jozi’ becoming our new home for a few years. Over these years, many emerging as well as established talents were signed on a label and management basis. From Gold to Multi-Platinum, multitudes of awards including SAMAs and Metro FM Awards, the Soul Candi brand was entrenched by some of Mzansi’s hottest artists, DJs and producers that include Mi Casa, Cuebur, Crazy White Boy, Euphonik, DJ Fresh and Muzart to name a few. During this time Soul Candi Live was born – our eventing arm which allowed us to take what we do and share with our fans through creative experiences such as Spring Fiesta.
